Im sorry, Im thankful, Im excited!

Im sorry, Im thankful, Im excited! If you bought the bundle deal in Virginia or Maryland and are wondering how to redeem it, use the Contact Us form at the bottom to let us know your JibberJobber username. If you were in my presentation and DID NOT buy the deal but want the other thing please use the Contact Us form to request it. I’ve been pretty busy lately. After we got evacuated from our house because of a fire close to us I spoke to a group of entrepreneurial accountants and bookkeepers at the annual Universal Accounting conference on Monday. Tuesday I got up around 4:30am (I am so not a morning person!) so I could catch a flight to Dallas for a conference for Resume Writers. I was fortunate to be invited to speak at a job club near Dallas (Career Jumpstart near Richardson) that was celebrating their 5 year anniversary â€" what a treat! I love job clubs because they provide so much strength and support to a community at the individual level. Wednesday through Saturday I did conference stuff (some terrific conversations, strategic ideas/plans and renewal of friendships/relationships), and then flew home. I rolled in around 7pm to do two quick loads of laundry and see my family for a short 15 hours. Then, Sunday morning I hopped on a flight, this time to Maryland/Virginia. I spoke seven times in three days, including two six hour workshops. It was fun, exciting, and somehow exhausting. Wednesday night I was gassing up my rental car utterly exhausted from presenting, driving and networking, and I was looking at the beautiful evening sky and trees around the gas station thinking how blessed I was. I had spent the last 72 hours running like crazy and touching, heart to heart, over 500 people. In my presentations I heard some “wow!” remarks, as I shared some of my ideas, and saw lights go on. I saw people “get it” … they really “got it” â€" they internalized my message. Some of them would change strategies and tactics and have different results. Some of them were stuck in their job search and that’s what they needed to hear. That’s cool. But even cooler was what happened to the people who were stuck in life. Downtrodden, depressed, deflated. The job search is such a trying time â€" it is harder than most things we’ve ever had to go through and people have been beat up so long they don’t think they are worth what they used to be worth. I got comments and emails from some of these people and after the meetings they indicated they got unstuck. They were now empowered and enabled. They got the glimmer of hope back… People ask if I’m a motivational speaker. I’m not. I don’t get up and “hip hop hooray!” But I thrive on knowing that if I can touch just one person, and help get them unstuck, then I’m successful when I speak. That’s what I hope for. Indeed, before I present, it is what I pray for: to touch just one person and hopefully help them get unstuck in their life. Thank you to each of you who support me, in any way, as I move forward with what I consider my (current) “mission” in life! And to those I met in Virginia and Maryland â€" let’s enjoy this journey together! (back to the title Im thankful for the chance to do what I do. Im sorry I didnt publish my schedule so you could join us, and Im excited as we move forward :)) Im sorry, Im thankful, Im excited! 5 Reasons Why Your Business Needs Scheduling Software

5 Reasons Why Your Business Needs Scheduling Software It seems like there a type of software for everything in business nowadays. But is that necessarily a bad thing? Not if it makes your life easier! Software, computer programs, and online tools can help you save time (and money) on administrative work that wastes large chunks of your workday and exhausts valuable human resources that could otherwise be spent on more substantial projects. No matter which field you’re in or what your business does, there’s one common denominator that’s a hassle for everyone: scheduling. It’s time-consuming, headache-inducing, and can quickly become a logistical nightmare for everyone involved. In fact, people were so sick of scheduling that they created software to make it faster and easier than ever before. Not convinced that your business needs it? Here are a few benefits of scheduling software that might change your mind. 1. Cloud-Based Technology Means (Practically) Unlimited Accessibility Introducing scheduling software to your business means that thanks to cloud-based technology, employees will be able to access the company schedule from any Internet-connected device. Send out notifications when a new schedule is published, and ensure that your workers always have the most recent copy of the schedule. Don’t worryâ€"you can still edit schedules once they’re published and send new notifications to alert employees to a schedule change. Choosing a scheduling software that comes with a mobile app will take accessibilityâ€"and convenienceâ€"to the next level. Image courtesy of Pexels. 2. It’s Just More Efficient Remember when we said scheduling can be a logistical nightmare? Well, there’s no way to get out of having to make a regular schedule, but scheduling software can streamline the process so that it’s less of a pain. With features like color-coding, drag-and-drop functionality, and, of course, copy and paste, scheduling is more intuitive, organized, and just plain more efficient. 3. Location and Job Specificity Employees who divide their time between two or more locations might have a hard time keeping track of where they’re supposed to be going for their next shift. Likewise, you might get confused about who’s scheduled where and at what time. Scheduling software is largely customizable, which means that it’s easy to create and assign locations and job sites to each employee. Plus, you can also specify jobs and projects so that employees know exactly what they’re supposed to be doing throughout each shift. If your business has more than one location, you know that avoiding mixups on the schedule isn’t as easy as it might seem. Image courtesy of Pexels. 4. Cut Down On Mistakes Surrounding Time Off With scheduling software, not only will your employees be able to access the schedule remotely, but they’ll also be able to put in requests for time off from outside the office. Once you approve the request, it’ll be stored in the software and prevent you from scheduling that employee during that time. This means that there will be less confusion for you when you’re making the schedule and also reduce the chances that an employee will be scheduled for a shift during their vacation time. 5. Save Money Scheduling can take up a lot of timeâ€"and in business, we all know that time equals money, which means that scheduling software can help you save in both areas. We already said that using software to create your schedule is more efficient, but how else can it help you save? To start, automatic saving and syncing can help prevent the disaster that comes along with lost connection and accidental erasing or deleting. Additionally, scheduling software has better accuracy than an human making the schedules by hand, which means less costly mistakes, tooâ€"especially when it’s time to process your payroll. Every penny counts toward making your business more successful, so cutting down on wasted resources can make a big difference. Image courtesy of Pixabay. Why Stop at Scheduling? Now that we’ve outlined how scheduling software can improve your business, one question remains stillâ€"why stop there? These are some other HR and operations tools that your business could benefit from: Time clock software â€" This one goes hand-in-hand with scheduling software and is pretty similar in concept. Instead of having physical time cards and timesheets, you’d use a web-based platform to track your employees’ time on the clock. Fortunately, most scheduling software providers offer this service and vice versa. Human resources management system (HRMS) â€" Introducing software to store company records and data will keep your archives organized, your HR department running smoothly, and your information secure. Employee engagement tools â€"  From recognition and rewards to anonymous feedback and company-wide polls, technology is definitely your friend when it comes to keeping employees engaged and satisfied with their jobs. These tools come in many forms, including apps and interactive platforms. A sense of tradition can be an asset in businessâ€"but only to a certain extent. Don’t get so caught up in the “old-school” way of doing things that you aren’t willing to evolve with the times, especially if that means simplifying monotonous taskwork and creating a more convenient workplace for both yourself and your coworkers. If speeding up your scheduling process makes things a little easier, then why not do it? Find a plan that works for your budget, and see how much you save in the long run.

Five Reasons to Consider Studying in Edinburgh

Five Reasons to Consider Studying in Edinburgh As the capital of Scotland, the city of Edinburgh has so much to offer to students. Here are just five reasons on why you should consider Edinburgh as your place of study. Studying In Edinburgh The History Many people decide to visit or live in Edinburgh due to the city bursting with history wherever you look. Historical landmarks such as the Edinburgh Castle receive hundreds upon thousands of visitors every year. With the ability to see the whole of the city from the top of the castle, it’s clear to see why so many hold Edinburgh close to their heart. Endless Possibilities As you will be studying in the capital, the choice of activities and fun things to do are endless. Edinburgh has a vast number of galleries and museums, as well as plenty of entertainment spaces for live music. There are also plenty of choices for food and drink, as well as a fantastic selection of intimate and quirky bars all the way to popular dance clubs. Also, the city hosts its annual Edinburgh Fringe, featuring the top names in comedy and theatre performing every year. It’s no wonder why so many students choose the city for their studies. Getting Around No matter how you need to get around, Edinburgh provides frequent transport links to and from the city, enabling students to get around with ease. If you need to travel by train, Edinburgh’s Waverley Station gives you the freedom to travel around Scotland, as well as links to England and beyond. However, if you are staying outside of the city, be sure to invest in a railcard or bus pass to help save you money, especially if you need to be in the city every day. Edinburgh airport is not too far away and may come in handy for travelling, particularly if you live in the south of England. Finding Your Home Choosing somewhere to stay for your studies can vary depending on location and your budget. Student accommodation can be costly if you don’t know where to look. For example, if you want to live in the city centre and close to your university, be prepared for the price to be much higher than those further afield. It is not uncommon for some students to want to rent privately, in order to live more independently. This often comes at a slightly steeper price, but students could maybe consider this luxury accommodation in Edinburgh  for students,   which often comes to a price lower than the most expensive campus accommodation, whilst offering better amenities. Safety Security One of the top priorities on picking where to live and study is how safe the area is. When it comes to Edinburgh, the city is regarded as one of the safest in the country and regularly receives very high ratings for its safety in national surveys. However, it is always important to be aware of danger and risk, which can happen no matter where you are. Still undecided on whether Edinburgh is right for you?   There are plenty of online websites and resources that provide information on student life, as well as details on the university you wish to attend.

The secret weapon for helping people with Aspergers succeed as adults

The secret weapon for helping people with Aspergers succeed as adults I coached this guy Tanner  who invented a thing to make milk flow smoothly in tubes and now hes a millionaire tech CEO. During his fifteen-year marriage hes scheduled sex with his wife, on a calendar, a year in advance. He was surprised to hear other couples do not do this. And yes, he gave me permission to tell you this. He doesnt care. He has Aspergers. Which is the point of this post. Dont think of Aspergers as a social skills thing because smart adults can avoid social skills. I mean, think about it. Every time I make a  public appearance,  I find a place to hide. So Aspergers is more like a social not-caring disorder. Because Tanner  knows everyone has sex, so he has no idea why people care so much about sharing details. Jacob is a music producer. I went to LA with my son to make a recording. Jacob  had car trouble on the freeway, so he drove off the side of a merge ramp that had a  70-foot drop to  the freeway below. He said it was his safest option. I didnt believe it until he took me to see the fence he landed on. After a weekend with Jacob, we were hanging out in a big, oak-paneled auditorium, taking a break in between recording sessions, and my son said, Mom, you and Jacob  are crazy in the same way. Like what? Like, you dont know your left and right and neither does he. Wait. Jacob, you dont know your left and right? No. I cant tell time either. Me either! Because time is left and right, right? Mom! I cant take it. Call Melissa! Call Melissa is what my kids say when they think Im messing things up. Like: I cant remember what airline were on. Call Melissa. We dont have money because I lost both my bankcards. Call Melissa. Last week my younger  son was locked out of the house and instead of calling me, he called Melissa. And even though she is 6000 miles away in San Francisco, she could help him: Go to the knitting shop. Theres a key under the rock. I told Mom to hide it there just in case. It turns out that Jacob  has his own version of Melissa. A roommate who manages his life for him. His roommate has been his roommate for 15 years and now thinks nothing of talking for Jacob. They were talking to a potential corporate client for recording and the client said, Can you just let Jacob  talk for himself? Jacob  sees all questions as an invitation for soliloquy, on any topic. Five minutes later his roommate said, You can see now that I wasnt talking for Jacob  for his benefit, I was talking for Jacob  for your benefit. The most common reaction people have to someone who has a very high IQ and Aspergers is that that dont have Aspergers. The most common thing I hear from Tanners  wife and Jacobs friend, No one would ever believe what I deal with. (Melissas version of this is, Write that down. It has to go on the blog.) People have no idea what to do when confronted with someone who seems perfectly normal, and extraordinarily successful, but actually has Aspergers. My husband was so frustrated when a reality TV crew filmed our family at the farm for three days. He thought people would finally see how crazy it is to live with an adult with Aspergers, but in fact, the show got canceled because TLC said Penelope and her family are too normal. My husband said its because we never left our house and I can control my environment at home. He says the producers should have watched me shop in the grocery store because I run people over with my cart all the time. (To be clear, I have never noticed this but he says thats the whole problem. He says people give me dirty looks like they want to kill me and I dont bat an eye.) People ask me all the time how to help transition kids into adulthood. Based on the very successful people I know who have Aspergers, there is always someone on the sidelines functioning as a safety net. And this doesnt appear to be something you can pay someone to do. In fact it appears that it cost people money to help someone with Aspergers. Tanners  wife comes from a wealthy family, which is good because Tanner  doesnt share his money. (He says he loves his wife very much, and he will buy her whatever she wants. She just needs to ask.) So when he wears black shorts to a black-tie event because he didnt like fabric on his pants, she uses her own money to have a new tux delivered in less than an hour. The roommate pays extra rent when Jacob  gets fired. Which is frequently. (The last time was when his boss said, If I were you Id record that kid first because his dad is a donor. Jacob  said, Oh. Jacob  did not record the kid. He was surprised when he got fired.) People with Aspergers routinely perform at the top of their class throughout school. Eighty-five  percent of people with Aspergers are unemployed. Thirty-five  percent of people with Aspergers think about  suicide. Here are links.  They are not exact. I do not care that Im not giving you exact numbers. I think numbers are a feeling. As a society we have become adept at identifying Aspergers. So adept that we still use the term even though the DSM has declared that term is not a term anymore. But we have a terrible track record for dealing with it. Part of the problem is people cannot understand how someone so smart could fail so profoundly. Another problem is humans naturally project: you figure that if addition is easy for you and you could do 2+2 when you were in kindergarten  then I must be  a lying psycho idiot when I tell you I cant do basic third-grade arithmetic. Another part of the problem is there is little understanding of the special type of support that someone with Aspergers needs as an adult. After seeing people like Tanner  and Jacob  I see my own situation better. I think success hinges on finding someone who loves you. But thats not enough. That person has to be good at doing the things the person with Aspergers is not good at doing. The person also needs to be normal. Which is why Tanners  name is not really Tanner. Because his wife might have an extraordinary heart but she has a standard  sense of privacy. Still, I ask her if I can write about the time he called 911 for her and then finished watching a movie because the rental period would run out before they got home from the emergency room. Go ahead, she said, if thats what it takes for people to start questioning what high IQ really means.

Including your team in blogging will make them part of their future success. You will face challenges implementing your team blogging effort. Some staff members will feel afraid to share their opinions with the public. Others might feel as though they lack effective writing skills. Even more of your workers will have difficulty finding enough time to blog.Use the following six tips to overcome objections while making blogging a team effort.1. Provide a List of TopicsevalGuide your team by providing everyone with a list of possible topics. Having a topic helps writers get started without wasting time with indecision. Get your list of possible subjects from popular social media posts and online tools. Have your team assess the needs of your target market and use the information to guide their blogging.Popular blogs can also supply you with topic ideas. Look for subjects upon which your team can expound. Providing new information about a popular topic will attract visitors. It will also establish the authority of your brand. Pass around your list of topics and allow everyone to choose the ones that appeal to them.2. Creativity is the KeyAllow your team members to choose their writing style and topics. Encourage your writers to unleash their passions as they write by eliminating job-related boundaries. Soon your employers will regard blogging as a chance for personal and professional growth. The variety of content produced by your team will thrill your audience.3. Take a Personal ApproachMake a personal appeal to each staff member. Individual requests will help your workers feel supported as they learn to blog. Overcome reluctance by asking each employee to write about current projects. You can also encourage prospective bloggers to learn and share about new topics.Personal requests will give you a chance to overcome resistance and motivate your team. Continue engaging your team on a one-on-one basis to get feedback and monitor progress.4. Offer GuidanceNatural writers can choose a topic and create exciting content without your intervention. Most people will need oversight. People often can write better when they can organize their thoughts. Help your team overcome inertia by showing them how to create outlines. Sometimes you might need to supply writers with outlines.evalMake sure your bloggers know how to check their writing for readability. Also, let everyone know the expected length of each blog p ost. Your team members will require less supervision as they grow accustomed to blogging.5. IncentivizeCreate a system that offers desirable rewards based on what your employees value. Gifts and money can inspire participation, but sometimes recognition can also do the job. Use telecommuting as an incentive. For example, make blogging competitive by allowing your top bloggers to become remote workers.Planning can increase the effectiveness of your reward system. You can incentivize your team by rewarding the person who makes the longest blog post. Also, consider rewarding your writers for exceeding their required number of posts. For example, require everyone to produce one monthly blog post and give bonuses to those who do more. Always add a quality component to your system to avoid rewarding low-quality work.6. Show Your AchievementsevalShare the results of your team blogging effort to inspire their continued participation. People will always work harder when they know that their w ork makes a difference. Provide regular updates to remind everyone about the importance of blogging. Keeping your blogging program visible will also encourage accountability.Periodically report the performance of your blog. Use statistics such as unique visitors and page views to evaluate progress. Dont Underestimate The Power Of Thank You - Pathfinder Careers

Dont Underestimate The Power Of Thank You - Pathfinder Careers Dont Underestimate The Power Of Thank You One of the most important aspects of conducting a job search is remembering to thank everyone who has helped you. We all know the drill on what happens, though. Someone helps us along the way, and in the back of our mind, we think, Oooooh, I should send them a thank you note and then life happens.   Kids need to get to soccer practice, youve got a new job lead you are following up on, and theres that meeting you need to get to time slips by quickly. And then you realize a week or so later, Gee, I really should have sent that thank you And you are absolutely right. You should have. But you didnt. More importantly, what you have lost is much more than an opportunity to thank someone. Youve also lost an opportunity to demonstrate your integrity as a person.   Taking a moment to express appreciation isnt necessarily expected nor required, but it does set people apart and say a lot about you as a person.   Those who take a moment to jot down a quick note (and I dont mean just a quick email!) and send via snail mail shows that you care, have attention to detail, and are eager to build a relationship with a person and not just scramble over the top of them on your climb up the career ladder. By not thanking someone, the person who went to bat for you only hears silence. And when you fail to thank those who are going to great lengths to help you succeed, the likelihood of them helping you out again is practically zero. Most people who get ‘burned’ like this don’t take the time to try and educate the person who asked for their help on what it was that they did wrong.   And thats when you never hear from them again or find out that they dont really try to help you anymore. It doesnt take much to find a moment and acknowledge the favor or the person.  A simple, “Wow, thank you so much for  (insert whatever the person did for you here) ”  always will  suffice. Were not talking a long essay. Pushed on time? Buy a blank packet of thank you notes the next time when you are at the store. When checking out, buy some stamps.   Its that easy. Simple, quick, and effective. You  need to build your fan base of professional colleagues because you never know when everything comes full-circle again and you might need their help again. And people have long memories of those who took what they needed from you and never took the time to say thank you- its a powerful tool in any job search.
